Programs' Speakers Bureau
Since it's founding, the speakers bureau has provided hundreds of women and men who have been homeless the opportunity share their powerful personal testimony of homelessness and recovery with many thousands of concerned adults and children. The hardship, misfortune, and abuse that have led to homelessness as well as the courage, wisdom and determination that lead to the recovery from homelessness has inspired many people to become more active in the work of providing assistance to those who are homeless and to become advocates for the establishment of policies to address the issues that can sustain homelessness or can help people to rebuild their lives. These stories provide a powerful example of how those who have struggled to overcome adversity can find the strength to inspire others to action.
In addition to personal testimony, presentations provide information about how New York's faith community and all concerned people can help to effect policies that can have a significant impact on the lives of thousands of New Yorkers in need.
These presentations generally include one (formerly homeless) staff person and one or two other speakers and are offered to houses of worship, schools, community organizations and business associations. Presentation sponsors are asked to provide honorariums of $150 and up (depending on the sponsor and location) to help support the regular Speakers Bureau support group meetings, speaker stipends and other program costs.
