NYC to determine if it will continue to provide Advantage Rental Housing Subsidies
A Department of Homeless Services lawyer advised us late Friday that those notices were sent "in error" and that the City is awaiting a court decision on whether it has to pay January rent. Counsel for the City have informed us that if no decision is issued by January 19th, the City will commence paying January rent on that date. For January 2012, Advantage landlords received an accurate letter stating the above. Argument on our appeal in the First Department is scheduled for February 9. Advantage tenants still within their lease periods who are told by their landlords that their Advantage rent is late should call 311 and ask for an investigation. Tenants should also request printouts from HRA for the months in question. Advantage tenants who have not received renewals for a second year should call 311 and ask to be renewed. Clients who receive continuation denial notices may request State fair hearings with aid continuing.
